My name is Camille Murphy Mahdi, and I am the Founder of Citizens for Family Activities in Tucker LLC (aka CFAT). CFAT was founded with the intention of not only bringing a New Year's Event, but to but to "fill in the gaps" where there were not already regularly scheduled annual events. Tucker already had some established amazing annual events such as Tucker Day, Tucker's July 3rd Spectacular, Taste of Tucker, and Christmas on Main. New Year's Eve was a no brainer as the first endeavor.
On New Year's Eve of 2018, several locals were commenting on Tucker Town Talk, a Facebook group, about wanting something to do on New Year's Eve. People were looking for something that didn't require them to drive too far, was family friendly, didn't require staying up all night, and didn't cost an arm and a leg. As someone who was also interested in having access to a local New Year's Eve event, I took on the challenge of organizing Tucker's first New Year's Eve Festival which took place exactly one year later on December 31, 2019. Tucker Optimist Club of which I am a member and now the 2021-2022 President, was key in helping me navigate the waters of planning a large event on Main Street in Tucker. I had the dream and the drive, and Tucker Optimist Club had the procedural know how. Together, we put on a stellar event for Tucker! In the midst of planning Tucker's 2020 New Year's Eve event, Covid-19 struck and put a moratorium on all events. In 2021 we picked right back up with Music on Main on New Year's Eve, an event that we hope to host for many years to come.
In 2022 we expanded to add Tucker Juneteenth Jubilee to our roster, which was an extreme honor for me to plan for my City of Tucker. With support of generous sponsors, and a lot of help from some really good people, including some members of the Tucker City Council, Tucker Juneteenth Jubilee has become a treasured annual tradition.
August 2023 we hosted our first post Back-to-school event, a joint venture. We partnered with Frontline Community Services and The Radikal Readers Clubhouse to bring the After School Swap, Barter, Buy & Boogie. This was a FREE event where people came to swap with, sell to, or buy gently used items from other people in the community. We handed out bookbags filled with books and school supplies.
August 2023 also served as the beginning of our book initiative to ensure that every student has access to required reading materials from assigned book lists. Since launching the initiative, we have fulfilled several book requests for teachers.
One of the long-term goals of Citizens for Family Activities in Tucker, LLC is to help local public schools plan and/or coordinate events and activities to further enrich experiences of their students as well as to assist in fundraising for the schools.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us make our vision a reality. We'll help you find a way to volunteer that best suits you.
We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of people like you. Thank you for your time and support that makes this possible!
We are dedicated to bringing quality family friendly events and activities, for free or at little cost, to Tucker and our neighboring communities. Thank you for becoming a part of our vision.
